In this session, we will dive into the consequences of reactive parenting and co-parenting, a style characterized by responding impulsively to children's behaviors and challenges without a thoughtful, proactive approach. Reactive parenting often stems from stress, frustration, or a lack of preparation, and while it may address immediate issues, it can have long-term negative effects on both the child and the parent-child relationship.
We will explore the impact of reactive parenting on children’s emotional and psychological development. When parents respond to situations with anger, impatience, or inconsistency, children may develop anxiety, fear, or confusion. Over time, this can erode trust and lead to behavioral problems, as children struggle to understand expectations and boundaries.
In the context of co-parenting, reactive behavior can amplify conflicts between co-parents, making it more difficult to maintain a cooperative relationship. Disagreements over discipline, communication breakdowns, and emotional outbursts can create a volatile environment that negatively affects the child’s sense of security and well-being.T
his session will focus on identifying the triggers that lead to reactive parenting and co-parenting and developing strategies to manage these triggers effectively. We will discuss the importance of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and proactive planning in creating a more stable and supportive environment for children.
Participants will learn practical techniques to shift from a reactive to a proactive parenting style, including mindfulness practices, setting clear expectations, and developing consistent routines. By the end of the session, they will be better equipped to manage stressful situations with calm and confidence, leading to more positive outcomes for the entire family.
