In Washington State, the RCW (Revised Code of Washington) governs court-ordered parenting seminars is RCW 26.12.172, titled "Parenting seminars — Rules." This law establishes key provisions and exceptions, including: + Opposing parties cannot be required to attend together + If there's evidence of domestic violence, abuse, or if attendance isn't in the child’s best interests, the court must either waive the requirement or provide an alternative voluntary seminar for battered parents + The court may also waive attendance for good cause + Cases filed under minor guardianship (Chapter 11.130 RCW) are exempt from the seminar requirement + Parties have 60 days from being served to complete an approved seminar (in most cases), and paternity actions requiring a parenting plan also trigger this requirement once paternity is established + Sanctions may be imposed—including contempt of court—on parties who willfully refuse or delay completion
